Q&A

Here is a list of all known questions that have been raised by members and answers received to-date. It is primarily based on the questions asked in the Chamber meeting on 14th November 2006 when Ken Bastin advised us about this project. If you know of any other issues that have been rasied, that are not mentioned here, then please advise and this information can be kept up to date.

Q What times will Fore Street be accessible during the day?
A Fore Street will be closed with no access to vehicles during the hours of 09.00Hrs in the morning and 18.00Hrs in the evening of each day.

Q Can we have signs to say that shops are open for business as normal?
A Yes additional signs will be made to emphasis that the Town is open for shopping as normal

Q Can mobility Scooters be provided?
A Ken Bastin is to look into this and respond by 15/12/06. I have a meeting with Shop Mobility on the 29/11/06 to discuss the possibility of Mobility Scooters for the period.

Q Can the business rates be reduced for the period of the road closure?
A I have contact the District valuer and they are unable to reduce the business rate for the period of the works.

Q Can the one way traffic order be rescinded?
A No

Q Can deliveries to occur during the day, as the road is a one way system?
A No, I said at the meeting on the 14/11/06 that this would be possible, but having discussed this further with Cornwall County Highways and Devon and Cornwall Police in the interest of public safety this is not possible. There is A window for deliveries, when the road will be open and that is between 18.00Hrs and 09.00Hrs the next day.

Q Does South West Water operate a compensation policy?
A Yes, South West Water operate a compensation policy. Three years accounts are required to be submitted to South West Water. This applies only to those businesses that are within the road closure and can demonstrate a loss through their business account.

Q Will Fore Street be closed any longer than five weeks?
A It is extremely unlikely, but I would not like to guarantee that this won't happen.

Q Have the Emergency services been informed?
A Yes

Q Why has the schedule shifted so that Fore Street works are now starting in March?
A The Highways Agency has forbidden any works taking place in Higher Bore and Lower Bore during the Easter break and this has had a knock-on effect to the schedule..
