Bodmin Town Centre - Framework Plan

Introduction

This page documents the development of the Bodmin Town Centre Framework Plan that has been created to guide the future planning of Bodmin's town centre with especial regard to retail and commercial development.

The plan was initiated by a group known as the "regeneration partners" consisting of NCDC, Bodmin Town Council, Bodmin Futures, and the South West of England Regional Development Agency. Consultants GVA Grimly, working in conjunction with New Master Planning, were selected and commissioned to research and develop the plan.

A steering group was formed consisting of representatives from the "regeneration partners" and Bodmin Chamber of Commerce and Industry to guide development of the plan. A meeting was held in October 2006 to allow the steering group to meet consultants and discuss the overall objectives with a view to how the research should be conducted. Chamber members were then invited to several meeting where the consultants could obtain opinions on some of the planning issues directly from people engaged in commerce in the town. This was followed by tours of the local areas high-lighted for possible development.

A public consultation day was held in Shire House Suite in December 2006 where members of the public were invited to view the findings and preliminary ideas on possible plan options. The exhibition boards were subsequently displayed in Shire Hall for further public view and comment.

A draft plan was reviewed in May 2007 with the final version being published in June 2007.
